How Stress Affects Us
Stress is recognized as a major source of unhappiness and ill health. Too
many people feel completely at its mercy, powerless either to avoid or
conquer its disruptive effects. Drugs such as tranquilizers may ease the
discomfort by dulling perceptions and reactions, but they do not really help
people stay afloat within its turmoil.Stress is experienced when there are extreme demands placed upon us, which threaten or exceed our coping responses and resources. In addition, damaging hormones released during stress weaken immunity, potentially damage cognitive ability, increase fatigue, depression, and anger and open the body to all types of infections. This makes way for a variety of diseases and thus a vicious cycle begins.
If the stress response is activated too often, it can create illness on a mental, emotional, behavioral and / or physical level, thus seriously impairing the quality of your life. When you strain your body every day without any holistic rest, the risk of breakdown grows tenfold. Yet people do not realize how damaging stress can be, until it's too late!
Stress affects every level of human existence - physical, mental and emotional.
